What is stachys arvensis?

Stachys arvensis, commonly known as field woundwort or corn woundwort, is a flowering perennial plant in the family Lamiaceae. It is native to Europe and Asia, but has also been naturalized in North America.

The plant grows to a height of about 30-60 cm. The stems are upright and hairy, with leaves arranged opposite each other along the stem. The leaves are oblong or lance-shaped, with serrated edges and hairy surfaces.

The flowers are arranged in dense spikes at the top of the stem, and are typically deep pink or purple in color. They bloom from June to September and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Stachys arvensis prefers to grow in sunny or partially shaded areas with well-drained soil. It is often found in fields, meadows, and along roadsides. It has been used in traditional medicine to treat wounds, hemorrhoids, and respiratory infections.
